Group A Documents:
Identification
One of the first things you’ll need to do is gather your identification documents. It is mandatory that you provide a copy of one of the following documents:
- Passport (must be signed, current and valid)
- Driving licence (issued by the DVLA UK or DVA Northern Ireland)
- UK Biometric Residence Permit card (BRP)
Ensure that these documents are up to date and easily accessible for submission during the registration process. Remember, providing accurate identification is a legal requirement and vital for processing your training course enrolment.

Group B Documents:
Proof of Address
You will also be required to provide proof of your address with 2 different documents (2 forms of the same document will not be accepted, unless stated otherwise). These can be in the form of the following:
- Utility bill from the last 3 months (e.g., gas, electric, water, telephone or TV)
- Bank or building society statement from the last 3 months (1 bank statements from different banks will be accepted)
- Credit card statement from the last 3 months
- Council tax statement from the last 12 months
- Mortgage statement from the last 12 months
- A letter from the last 3 months from any of the following: the Department of Work and Pensions, Jobcentre Plus or any similar employment services, a local authority, etc.
- GP letter
- Paper version of a current UK/Northern Ireland driving licence
- P60/P45 from the last 12 months
- Pension, endowment or ISA statement from the last 12 months
- UK firearms licence with photo
Photos
It is also mandatory that you bring two original passport-sized photos on the first day of your training course.
These must be:
- In colour
- 45mm x 35mm in size
- Printed (NOT digital)
- A true likeness of you, old photos will not be accepted
- A close-up of your full head and upper shoulders
- Taken against a white or cream background
You must:
- Be looking straight at the camera with a plain expression with your mouth closed
- Not have a head covering, unless it’s for religious or medical reasons
- Not have anything blocking/covering your face
- Not wear sunglasses or darkened lenses (clear glasses can be worn)
- Not have any shadows on your face or behind you
Background Checks
When applying for a licence, the SIA conduct background checks on individuals applying for security-related training courses.
You may be required to provide consent for a background check and submit additional documents such as:
- a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Certificate
- a Criminal Record Declaration Form
If you have lived abroad for 6 months or more, you will be required to provide an Overseas Criminality Certificate (OCC).
Proof of Right to Work
You must have the right to work in the UK to apply for a front-line or non-front-line licence. If you are a UK citizen, you have the right to work in the UK. If you are not a UK citizen, the SIA will check your right to work against records held by the Home Office.
